Marcus Aurelius Roberto, a native of Ravenna, Ohio, graduated from Kent State University with a master's degree in history and received his law degree from the University of Akron. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was a seconday school teacher for thirteen years and worked as an attorney.
He served six years in the Ohio House of Representatives before his election to the Ohio Senate in 1976. He was re-elected in 1980. He was chairman of the House and Senate Education committees and served on the Senate Ways and Means Committee. He also served on the Senate Judiciary Committee. His areas of expertise were education and taxation.
Marcus Roberto died on February 24, 1986.

William L. Phillis, of Columbus, Ohio, donated a collection of political memorabilia to the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board in 2009.
The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board took over the care of the Statehouse and its collections in 1988.
