Members of the Ohio senate mourned the passing of Bob Schuler who died on Friday, June 19, 2009. Senator Schuler had represented the 7th Ohio Senate District since 2003.
His term in the state senate culminated a twenty-five-year public service career where he represented the citizens of Hamilton and Warren counties. As a Republican, he was elected a councilman in Deer Park and then a Sycamore Township Trustee. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1993 to 2000 and then in the Ohio Senate from 2003 until his death in 2009. Shannon Jones was appointed to fill out the remainder of Schuler's term.

Former Ohio Senate Director of Finance Brian Perera donated a collection of political memorabilia and ephemera to the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board in 2012.
The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board took over the care of the Statehouse and its collections in 1988.
