Adams’ work has been exhibited internationally and is included in numerous public and private collections in the United States and abroad. Her paintings and drawings have received a multitude of awards from institutions including the Toledo Museum of Art, Butler Institute of American Art, National Arts Club, and the Art Student’s League of New York. She has been honored with Awards of Excellence for her paintings in International Portrait Competitions sponsored by the American Society of Portrait Artists’ Foundation, Portrait Society of America, and the Art Renewal Center. In 2007, Leslie successfully prepared her first major solo exhibition at the Ella Sharp Museum of Art & History – an exhibition which showcased the body of work she produced during the first decade of her career in portraiture. In addition, Leslie’s work was selected for inclusion in Inspiring Figures: An Exhibit Celebrating American Women in Figurative Art, at the Butler Museum of American Art and Here’s Looking at You: Portraits by Ohio Artists in the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery. As a prominent portrait artist, Leslie has completed two gubernatorial and four official portraits for the State of Ohio including portraits for the Ohio Senate and the Supreme Court of Ohio. Of more recent note, the Ella Sharp Museum of Art & History has acquired the work of Leslie Adams for the Museum’s permanent collection. The portrait is the first work by Adams acquired by a Museum in the United States. Leslie’s work was also included in the 93rd Annual Toledo Area Artist’s Exhibition at the Toledo Museum of Art where it received its highest honor. Curated by the Museum’s Director, Brian Kennedy and Curator of Contemporary Art, Amy Gilman, the artist was awarded a solo exhibition…the first offered in the show’s history. Adams’ exhibition will open in the Toledo Museum of Art in September, 2012 and coincide with “Manet Portraits,” a major exhibition co-organized by the TMA and the Royal Academy of Art, London. |
