Notes |
Monsignor Joseph Jessing commissioned this statue by Alphons Pelzer in 1892 for the courtyard of the Pontifical College Josephinum (formerly on East Main Street, Columbus). The statue of Christopher Columbus commemorates the capital city's namesake and the 400th anniversary of his voyage to America. When the Josephinum moved to Worthington, Ohio, in 1932, the college gave the statue to the state of Ohio and moved it to the Statehouse grounds. |
Provenance |
This photograph was found in the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board's main office in the Ohio Statehouse. The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board took over the care of the Statehouse and its collections in 1988. |
