Notes |
According to the front page, this election was held October 9, 1810. Looking at the bottom of the inside pages, there is a place where electors voted on the governor. 51 votes were cast for Return Jonathan Meigs, Jr., six for Thomas Worthington (who later served as governor from 1814-1818), and one for John Meigs (possibly intending to vote for Return J. Meigs, Jr). Return J. Meigs, Jr. won the gubernatorial election in 1810 and reelection in 1812. He resigned in 1814 when he was appointed Postmaster General for the United States by President James Madison. Other prominent figures listed as candidates include Samuel Huntington and Jeremiah Morrow, who ran for the same seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Huntington served as Ohio's governor from 1808-1810, and Morrow later served as governor from 1822-1826. Ultimately, Huntington won 58 votes to Morrow's 1 vote in the 1810 race for representative. |
