Newspaper clipping from an unidentified newspaper. The article announces the engagement of Senator Jacob Henry Miller to Ms. Harriett Rachel Adams. The article spells Ms. Adams' name wrong and refers to her as "Marietta". The article reads: "SENATOR MILLER TO WED / A CLEVELAND GIRL / Announcement has been made in Newark / of the engagement and ap- / proaching marriage of Miss Mari- / etta (sic) Rachel Adams of Cleveland to / Hon. J. Henry Miller of Newark, a / member of the state legislature and / president pro tem / of the Ohio sen- / ate. Mr. Miller's many friends in / this county will hasten to extend / congratulations. / Miss Adams is a graduate of the / Newark high school, and is now act- / ing as instructor of nurses at the / Cleveland city hospital. Jacob Henry Miller was born October 3, 1865 in Licking County, Ohio. Miller was a farmer, teacher, lawyer, minister and member of the Ohio Senate. He received his education at Bethany College, Ohio Northern University, and Pettit College of Law. A democrat, Miller served one term in the Ohio Senate between 1917-1919, and was Senate President Pro Tempore during his term. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta and a supporter of women's suffrage and prohibition. Miller died January 5, 1919 and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio. |
