Description |
A red Christmas stocking topped with white, edged with green piping and a green loop. On the front are the words "Merry / Christmas" in white thread and a felt white bear wearing a Santa hat and a holiday scarf. The red hat reads "LAZZIEBEAR" in white edged in green, and has a white pom pom (three dimensional). The scarf it wears is red and has green trees and white pom poms (not three dimensional). The back is solid red, and has no design. |

This stocking was purchased from LF&R Lazarus & Company. Lazarus had a mascot named Lazzie Bear and he was used in many promotional products, including this stocking. F&R Lazarus & Company was a Columbus, Ohio based department store founded in 1851 as a men's clothing store, it gradually expanded and became a very successful chain. Lazarus was open for over 150 years eventually merging with and was absorbed by Macy's in 2005. |

This stocking was owned by Ohio Statehouse Museum staff member, Chris Matheney. Chris donated it to the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board in April of 2021. The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board took over the care of the Statehouse and its collections in 1988. |
