Description |
Letter sent by Ohio Senator, J. Henry Miller to Edna B. Perkins in response to her February 24, 1917 letter. The letter is dated February 28, 1917 and reads: "Mrs. Edna B. Perkins, / Cleveland, Ohio. / Indeed, I received with much appre- / ciation your kind of invitation to be at the open / house meeting of your women's suffrage celebra- / tion of greater Cleveland, to be held March 3rd / from three to six o'clock, and more than you / know I should be glad to be there, but indeed / I find it impossible because of the tremendous / press of matters that is falling upon me these / last days of the session. I think I anticipate / the high spirit of rejoicing that will be found / to exist among you. / While the victory you are celebrating / does not indicate that you have achieved all / that you are working for, it does mark an ef- / fective step forward and is the breaking of the / full day that is soon coming to you. / Indeed, I feel more credit has been given / me than I deserve for the part I did in the passage / of the Reynolds bill. The most I can say for the / speech is that my heart was in it. / With sincere regret that I cannot be with / you and wishing for your organization and the cause / a prompt victory that will cover all that you are / asking for, I am, with kindest regards, / Sincerely yours, / JHM/PN" |
