Richard Nixon visited Columbus on October 22, 1968 as part of his presidential campaign. Nixon gave a speech on the front steps of the Ohio Statehouse, an event that was attended by about 10,000 people, many GOP leaders and OSU football coach Woody Hayes and his football team. Nixon, along with members of his staff and many journalists, arrived in Columbus on a 15-car train, the "Nixon Victory Special." - Columbus Metropolitan Library |

David B. Hunker attended a presidential campaign rally for Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew at the Ohio Statehouse in 1968. He collected this campaign button at the rally. It was in his possession until 2016, when it was donated to the Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center. The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board took over the care of the Statehouse and its collections in 1988. |
