Betty Montgomery was born April 3, 1948. In 1980, Montgomery was elected Wood County Prosecutor. In 1988, she was elected to the Ohio Senate. In 1994, Montgomery successfully ran for Ohio Attorney General. With this election Montgomery became the first woman to serve as Ohio's Attorney General. As Attorney General, Montgomery worked to increase funding for law enforcement and for more crime labs. She defeated Democrat Richard Cordray for re-election in 1998. By the end of 2001, Montgomery had reached the term limit for Attorney General. She successfully ran for State Auditor in 2003. |
